Where innovation meets precision
Published on 30 January 2025

Medical technology is one of the most significant industries in Switzerland, and the most important sector for Roth. Medical technology and Roth is a successful partnership where innovation meets precision.

The Swiss tech industry association Swissmem recently set up the new “Medical Manufacturing” industry sector. Swissmem explains that this was done to recognise the key role of Swiss medical technology. The following figures speak for themselves: 70,000 employees, 1400 companies and a revenue of CHF 23 billion.

The Must-haves

Medical device manufacturers insist on top quality, 100% supplier performance and just-in-time deliveries. Consequently, medical technology is one of the most demanding sectors. That is precisely why we are a proven partner for the sector – both in Switzerland and throughout Europe. Our core expertise – maximum precision, cleanliness and reliability – are not mere luxuries, but absolute essentials for this sector.

A Winning Team

We have long-standing partnerships with our customers in the medical technology field. Some of them stretch back 30 years. In addition, we have been certified under the quality management system for medical devices, ISO 13485, for nearly 20 years. We are constantly improving in tandem with the medical technology sector, and are closely involved in its continuous innovation.

Clean as a Whistle

We produce a wide range of precision parts for all manner of medical devices, such as diagnostic equipment and ventilators. The highly complex precision parts have one thing in common: they must meet extremely high cleanliness standards. We ensure that purity levels are maintained via special testing processes based on measurement of surface tension and determination of particle size.

A Real Challenge

We specialise in producing precision parts made from titanium that are often used in medical devices on account of their biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, high strength and good compatibility with bones. Because titanium is hard to machine, we only work with the very best cutting tools. Furthermore, all our lathes have an additional high-pressure oil pump to cool the precision part and get rid of the shavings quickly.

In Compliance

However, the biggest challenge when developing and producing precision parts for medical devices is complying with the huge swathe of regulatory requirements without using up vast quantities of our own resources and those of our customers. Yet we can meet this challenge by working efficiently.

Although our collaboration with the medical technology sector is extremely demanding, it is also immensely fulfilling. For instance, we are proud when we help to get premature babies off to a good start in life with a highly complex valve for oxygen supply in an incubator.
