As part of its commitment to using resources sparingly, and in order to be equipped for a future energy shortage, Roth is installing solar panels on the roofs of its three buildings. Because Roth operates around the clock in three shifts, it will be able to consume all of the self-generated solar power directly on site.

As part of our sustainability concept, we decided last year that we would start planning a solar plant in spring 2023. Due to the current energy crisis, this project became more urgent, which is why we decided to bring it forward. A well-known solar technology company has been commissioned to plan and install the system. Our new photovoltaic system is now due to go live in March 2023. For our customers, this means that their precision parts will be produced with green electricity to a certain extent. At the same time, it will increase the security of supply, as producing our own solar power will make us better equipped to deal with a future electricity shortage.

500 high-output modules

The photovoltaic modules are not just being installed on one Roth building, but on all three (the two production buildings and the office building). The system comprises around 500 high-output modules. The monocrystalline modules are based on the innovative and highly efficient half-cell technology and have an output of 420 kWp.

200 megawatt hours of energy

The photovoltaic system will provide around 200 MWh of energy per year. Because our production facilities operate around the clock, we will use all of this self-generated energy directly ourselves. This will make our photovoltaic system more economical, since we do not have to feed anything into the grid. It will also make it more environmentally friendly, as we will not need to use a battery. The 200 MWh will be enough to cover around 6% of the total energy that we need.

This solar plant is a major investment. However, we see it as an investment in our future and the future of our customers. It will enable us to strengthen our position as an environmentally conscious manufacturer of precision-turned parts and make a contribution towards the energy transition.
